OIL ON CANVAS 2009, 70cm x 100cm (28in x 40in)
Trevi is in Umbria between Foligno and Spoleto just off the SS3 and one of its claims to fame (apart from having been painted by me) is that it has a lot of original Roman mosaic road paving. If you are a follower of my work you'll have noticed that I haven't painted landscapes in this classical sense. I have the opinion that it's very hard to capture the majesty of open country without creating a mythical looking painting. With this early sunset I wanted depth (hence the olive grove) but make the Trevi the centre piece. I also wanted the sky to be tall, hence painted the landscape in portrait. Of course I have a few characters resting under the olive trees, it's sunset and olive picking season so I'm sure they deserved it. I rather like it.
Editions are Limited to 30 mid size and 5 full size prints. The 'Relief Geclee is a technique I've been working on where I apply a very thick, textured clear acrylic coat to the print. This captures the lights in a similar way to the original, produces an individual textured effect and deepens the colours in the print. A very good reproduction of the original.
Prints will not be available until the new year as the painting is drying very slowly with the studio being cold. I cannot send it for scanning until it's dry.
